Extended Throat Venturi Based Flow Meter for Optimization of Oil Production Process

Water is mixed with the crude oil to form complex multiphase fluid during extraction process. Some of traditional methods measure relative amount water (known as water-cut or WC) are intrusive, which prone wear and tear. Few other methods, used for WC sensing, either unable cover full range (0-100% require good mixing production be sensed accurately. This paper presents a unique robust design dual spiral microwave resonator, has been integrated on extended throat venturi. Venturi measures flow rate overall while resonator fraction in oil. Unlike existing meters, presented fully non-intrusive, covers does not any accurate measurement. The meter designed withstand harsh field conditions 1000 psi pressure 125°C temperature its performance validated commercial industrial loop variable salinity conditions. “Phase inversion” phenomenon where mixture changes from “oil continuous” “water vice versa, characterized thoroughly under varying test Microwave sensor’s resonance frequency ( ${\text f}_{o}$ ) quality (Q) factor continuous respectively. tested over wide rates (0-100%) WC. Liquid accuracy ±3% cut ±2% obtained measurements.
